Minority Leader Dr. Ato Forson has urged the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to refrain from engaging in widespread corruption allegations against the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
He stated, “The NDC and the incoming government must not mirror the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government,” emphasizing that the party should set itself apart. “We have to be different,” Dr. Forson added, stressing the importance of adhering to principles of integrity, probity, and accountability.
He further declared that it is time for the new government to act in the best interest of the people of Ghana, advocating for people-centered policies that genuinely benefit voters, rather than the political elite and their allies.
Speaking at the opening of The Seventh Meeting of the Fourth Session of the Eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic, Dr. Forson also highlighted the NDC’s victory in securing over 50 parliamentary seats from the NPP. He noted that this victory demonstrates that reducing the NPP’s majority to “nkokor nkiti nkiti” is achievable, affirming, “Indeed, ‘nkokor nkiti nkiti’ is possible!”
Dr. Forson also described the recent general election as a revolt against a government that was stubborn, insensitive, and dismissive of public opinion. He criticized the NPP for labeling dissenting voices as detractors, cynics, naysayers, and for referring to critics as Sanbalat and Tobias. “Ghanaians have made it clear that they cannot be taken for granted. When it matters most, they will either reward or punish a government for its actions,” he added.
Meanwhile, Majority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, also the Member of Parliament for Effutu in the Central Region, used the occasion to remind the NDC of their campaign promises. He urged the incoming government to honor its commitments, particularly with regard to tax reforms and other changes promised to the people of Ghana during the election.
