Ghana Fire Service issues safety alert ahead of Masquerade Festivals
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is urging the public to exercise caution and adhere to fire safety protocols during the upcoming Masquerade festivals in the Western Region.
ADO I Evans Kwofie of the Public Education Unit at the Sekondi Regional Headquarters emphasized the importance of prior notification from event organizers to ensure the GNFS plans effectively and responds promptly in case of emergencies.
“We expect organizers to inform us at least 24 hours before the event, as stipulated in the Fire Precautions Regulation 2003 (LI 17-24),” ADO I Kwofie said.
“This will enable us to identify potential risks and take necessary precautions.”
ADO I Kwofie also highlighted the need for organizers to control the crowd, especially during processing, and to inform the Ghana Police Service to provide direction and support.
Additionally, ADO II Mabel Nanee Tamakloe emphasized the importance of fire safety in homes, particularly during the dry season.
“We must be mindful of our surroundings and take steps to prevent fires,” Madam Tamakloe said. This includes turning off electrical appliances when not in use, storing gas cylinders safely, and avoiding smoking and using firecrackers near people and flammable materials.
