Sekondi – Takoradi: Akufo-Addo’s statue partially damaged
A statue of President Nana Akufo-Addo, situated in front of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi-Takoradi, has been partially damaged, raising concerns among the public.
On Monday, December 16, 2024, a sizable hole was discovered on the back of one of the statue’s legs. The cause of the damage remains uncertain.
While some suspect it may result from deliberate vandalism by individuals opposed to the statue, others believe it could be due to a construction flaw.
The statue, unveiled by President Akufo-Addo during his tour of the Western Region, was intended to honor various development projects in the area. Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah emphasized key achievements symbolized by the statue, including the rehabilitation of the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital, the Sinohydro three-tier interchange, and the redevelopment of the Takoradi Market Circle.
Authorities have not yet stated the cause of the damage or plans for repairs.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service, in a statement signed by Beachfmonline.com, said it has begun investigations into the damage to the statute and to arrest the perpetrators to face justice.
