Energy Analyst, Dr. Yussif Sulemana has called on the incoming Mahama administration to draw critical lessons from the power distribution services, PDS scandal in its plans to involve a private sector player in the operations of the Electricity Company of Ghana.
He emphasised the importance of prioritizing transparency in the power sector to rebuild investor confidence which was significantly damaged by the controversy.
According to Dr. Sulemana fostering trust in the sector will attract essential investment to enhance efficiency and provide Ghanaians with a reliable power supply.
He said, “The private sector that we’re going to get, we have to make our learnings from the PDS scandal of assault. Donors are looking out there. There’s still that positive momentum that donors can come in support of a sort, especially if you let transparency be the bane of the whole thing.”
“If you get a private sector player who will be supportive and not be a parasite on the system of a sort, that will help a lot, and that will give whoever is interested in investing into the sector will see that transparency, and that person might be attracted through the investment even with our extended party. I believe ECG, if well managed, is sustainable on any day at any point in time,” Dr. Sulemana said.
