EC declares results for 4 Parliamentary seats invalid due to disruptions

The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared the parliamentary results for the Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central constituencies as illegal and invalid.
Samuel Tettey, the Deputy EC Chair for Operations, made this announcement during a press briefing in Accra on Friday.
He explained that while the results for the Suhum, Akwatia, and Fanteakwa North constituencies have been successfully re-collated, the process remains incomplete for Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, and Techiman South.
Regarding the constituencies of Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central, Mr. Tettey stated that the re-collation process had been disrupted. “Party supporters besieged the centers, took over the process, and pressured staff to announce results for their preferred candidates,” he revealed.
He emphasized that these disruptions prevented officials from following the legal procedures outlined in CI 127, including threats against EC officers to declare winners without completing the necessary steps.
“The commission has determined that these collations and declarations, which did not adhere to the established procedures, are illegal and cannot be upheld,” Mr. Tettey added.
The EC reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
