Apaak urges government to clear WAEC debt

WAEC

Deputy Ranking Member on the Education Committee in Parliament, Dr. Clement Apaak, has joined calls for the government to promptly settle its GH¢118 million debt owed to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

The arrears have resulted in the suspension of the release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

WAEC, in a statement, emphasized the need for immediate payment to repair damaged equipment required for processing examination results.

The delay has disrupted the academic calendar and left students awaiting results in uncertainty.

Dr. Apaak criticized the government’s failure to address the issue, labeling it unacceptable. He stressed that withholding WASSCE results could have severe consequences for students and tertiary institutions, urging the government to honor its financial obligations to WAEC without further delay.
