The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) is encouraging fuel consumers to take advantage of their right to verify the amount of fuel dispensed to combat the ongoing problem of pump tampering at service stations.
Even with the implementation of advanced technology such as the automatic tank gauging system, which tracks fuel levels across the country, some dishonest fuel attendants still manipulate pumps to cheat customers.
To empower consumers, NPA CEO Dr. Mustapha Abdul Hamid has urged Ghanaians to use the standardized 10-liter can approved by the Ghana Standards Authority to ensure accurate measurements.
“We’ve introduced a lot of technological innovation in our operation. We have a system we call the ERDMS, the enterprise relational data management system that allows us visibility in terms of the products that are loaded and sold, which then helps with taxation purposes and etcetera. We have an automatic time-gauging system that allows the visibility of various petroleum outlets across the country, such that we are able to know beforehand where in Ghana there are likely to be shortage of petroleum products that we can make an intervention in,”
We are our quality assurance directorate has all the modern target for the testing of petroleum products. We have an arrangement with a local company called Nationwide Technologies that does the fuel marking program that helps us to determine whether a particular petroleum product comes from the right source or not. “
