The December 7 parliamentary elections across Ghana’s 276 constituencies have delivered surprising results, particularly for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). The party experienced notable losses, with several key figures, including ministers, failing to retain their seats.

Key Constituency Outcomes:

Adansi Asokwa

NDC candidate Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani unseated NPP’s KT Hammond, the Minister for Trade and Industry. Dorani garnered 14,229 votes, surpassing Hammond’s 13,275 votes.

Ayawaso Central

The NDC’s Abdul Rauf Tongym Tubazu defeated Henry Quartey, Minister for the Interior, with 29,755 votes against 23,345 votes.

Ablekuma West

Rev Kweku Addo of the NDC secured victory over Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, with 31,866 votes compared to her 26,575 votes.

Awutu Senya East

Mavis Hawa Koomson, Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, lost to Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunnor of the NDC, who received 50,886 votes against Koomson’s 46,638 votes.

Sekondi

Tourism Minister Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer of the NPP was ousted by Blay Nyameke Armah of the NDC, who won with 14,558 votes against Mercer’s 11,084.

Ayawaso West Wuogon

John Dumelo of the NDC secured a historic win over Lydia Alhassan, Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, with 40,561 votes to her 27,377.

Okaikwei South

Incumbent Dakoa Newman of the NPP lost in a closely contested urban seat, signaling growing challenges for the party in urban areas.

Mfantseman

Ophelia Mensa, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, was defeated by Ebenezer Prince Arhin of the NDC, who polled 36,989 votes against her 24,099.

Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro

Deputy Minister for Information Sylvester Tetteh lost to Okle Felix Akwetey of the NDC, who won decisively with 37,473 votes to Tetteh’s 27,888.
