The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has announced its preliminary findings from the December 7, 2024, general elections, based on data collected from its Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT) system.

Speaking during a press briefing, the Chairperson of the CODEO Advisory Board, Rev. Dr. Fred Deegbe, revealed that results had been received from all 1,500 sampled polling stations across Ghana.

The sampled stations represent every region and constituency, ensuring a comprehensive overview of the voting process.

“As of midnight on December 7, CODEO had received results from all PVT national representative samples of polling stations. This stabilization of data allows us to provide impartial verification of the official presidential election results announced by the Electoral Commission (EC),” Dr. Deegbe stated.

According to CODEO’s provisional estimates, voter turnout was projected at 63.9% + or – 0.5%, with rejected ballots accounting for 2.1% + or – 0.1% of total votes cast.

Despite an overall orderly process, CODEO observers documented 228 incidents across the country during the polling process, including during the opening, voting, and counting stages.

“The most common incidents reported included intimidation or harassment, violence, vote buying, bribery, the unauthorized presence of police officers at polling stations, and violations of voting and counting procedures,” Dr. Deegbe detailed.

Dr. Deegbe commended the dedication of election officials, security personnel, voters and all stakeholders, who contributed to the generally smooth conduct of the elections.

However, he urged authorities to address the reported irregularities and enforce stricter compliance with electoral laws to maintain public confidence in Ghana’s democratic process.

CODEO is commitment to providing impartial and accurate observations of the elections, calling on all stakeholders to respect the democratic outcomes as verified by independent and credible bodies.
