Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has officially conceded defeat in the 2024 presidential election.

Addressing the nation during a press conference at his residence on Sunday, December 8, Bawumia stated that his decision to step down was driven by a commitment to avoid escalating tensions within the country.

With a focus on maintaining peace and national unity, Bawumia acknowledged the outcome of the election, saying, “The people of Ghana have voted for change, and I respect the will of the Ghanaian people.”

He emphasized the importance of upholding the country’s democratic values and maintaining the spirit of peaceful elections that have long defined Ghana’s political culture.

Bawumia urged his supporters to remain calm and patient as the country moves toward a smooth and peaceful transition of power.

“I am making this concession speech to avoid the tension in this country,” he added.

The vice president’s gesture marks a commitment to ensuring that Ghana continues to be a model of democracy and peaceful electoral processes.
