In a pivotal outcome from the 2024 general elections, John Kobina Abbam Aboah Sanie, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Mpohor, has been unseated by Bentil Godfred Henry of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Bentil secured 11,680 votes, delivering a decisive blow to Sanie of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who managed 8,299 votes.

This result signals a major shift in parliamentary representation in Mpohor, a constituency historically leaning towards the NPP.

Meanwhile, the Sekondi constituency has also witnessed a dramatic change in leadership.

Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer, the incumbent MP and a notable figure of the NPP, lost his seat in a closely contested race to Blay Nyameke Armah of the NDC.

Blay claimed victory with 14,558 votes, accounting for 56.40% of the total valid votes, while Egyapa Mercer garnered 11,084 votes, representing 42.94%. Out of the 25,813 votes cast in Sekondi, 171 ballots were rejected.

This loss marks a significant reversal for Egyapa Mercer, who had a commanding win in the 2016 elections, where he polled 16,839 votes (59.47%) against his NDC rival Emmanuel Assifuah, as well as contenders from the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and Convention People’s Party (CPP).

Blay’s victory in Sekondi and Bentil’s triumph in Mpohor highlight the competitive nature of the 2024 elections, with the NDC making substantial gains in constituencies traditionally held by the NPP.

These outcomes reflect a broader trend of keenly contested parliamentary races shaping the political landscape across the country.
