Election Day in the Esikado-Ketan constituency turned chaotic late Saturday night when violence erupted at the collation center.

At around 11:20 p.m., a polling station officer was seen carrying ballot papers into the collation center under unclear circumstances.

Tensions escalated when onlookers, suspicious of the origin of the ballot papers, refused to allow the officer to explain.

The situation quickly spiraled out of control as the officer was attacked by an irate crowd. Police intervened swiftly, dispersing the mob and restoring temporary order.

However, the calm was short-lived as another ballot box arrived at the collation center, reigniting the unrest.

A fight broke out, lasting approximately 10 minutes, with heated arguments and palpable tension dominating the scene. The commotion left many visibly shaken.

In the midst of the chaos, journalists on the scene, including Spice FM reporter Priscilla Ohenewaa, became targets of the angry crowd.

Stones and other objects were hurled at the journalists, forcing them to flee for safety.

According to eyewitnesses, the crowd shouted threats, claiming they knew the journalists’ identities and workplaces.

The Ghana Police Service stepped in to protect the journalists, escorting them to a police van that sped away with sirens blaring.

Despite the police presence, the angry crowd pursued the van before officers successfully transported the journalists to safety.

The journalists were dropped off at the Prison Roundabout, where they arranged for transportation to their respective destinations.

The incident highlights the volatile atmosphere that marred the electoral process in some constituencies, raising concerns about the safety of journalists and polling officials during high-stakes events.
