Two arrests have been made today in connection with alleged violations of electoral laws during the ongoing polls, with incidents occurring in the Okaikwei South and Kintampo South constituencies, underscoring the importance of law enforcement in safeguarding the integrity of the election process.

In the Okaikwei South Constituency, tensions flared at the St. Theresa’s School polling station when an altercation occurred between an individual and an Electoral Commission (EC) official shortly before voting began.

Eyewitnesses reported that the individual, an agent of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), verbally attacked the EC official, disrupting preparations for the polls.

The situation escalated, prompting immediate police intervention. Following a tip-off, law enforcement conducted a search and found the individual in possession of a pistol.

This raised significant safety concerns at the polling station, leading to the individual’s arrest. The suspect was subsequently taken to the Kaneshie Police Station for further questioning.

Meanwhile, in the Bono East Region, another arrest took place at the Ampesika Bayere polling station in the Kintampo South Constituency.

An Electoral Commission (EC) staff member, identified as Dery Joseph, was apprehended for alleged electoral misconduct that could undermine the credibility of the polls.

According to police reports, Joseph is accused of distributing ballot papers that inexplicably omitted the first presidential candidate on the list.

The error was discovered after approximately 15 ballots had been issued to voters, triggering swift action from polling agents and electoral monitors, who alerted the authorities. The case is under investigation.
