One of the major concerns of the media during the period leading to general elections is the safety of media personnel as they go about their legitimate duties.
It is for this reason that Focus1 Media has secured insurance packages from Hollard Insurance for its journalists covering this year’s general elections.
Hollard Insurance, an insurance company, gives journalists of Focus1 Media a one-month cover to guarantee their life safety in their line of duty.
Isdor Oheneba, Takoradi Branch Manager of Hollard Insurance, in an interaction with the media, underscored the importance of being insured as a journalist in these critical moments.
This insurance cover of 20,000 cedis is to cater for any accidental damage to journalists in their line of duty during the elections.
“Ideally, voting should be peaceful, but due to one or two, there is little violence in some areas, which can result in injuries. We thought it wise to partner with Focus 1 media so that all the reporters will have a personal accident cover during the election period.”
He said insurance packages from Hollard are the “right thing at the right time” to motivate journalists.
Mr. Isdor Oheneba added, “These things are not normally done, but per discussions with management, all reporters have been insured.
This will enable them to cover genuinely what the public needs to know, as well as assure the reporters of being catered for in terms of any unforeseen circumstances”
