The Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency witnessed heightened tensions during the special voting exercise after incumbent MP and New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Lydia Alhassan distributed food packs to voters at the Legon Police Station polling centre.
Lydia Alhassan, assisted by her team, handed out the food to voters in the queue, sparking criticism from her opponent, John Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate.
Dumelo condemned the act, labeling it a breach of Electoral Commission (EC) regulations and a threat to the fairness of the electoral process.
He expressed frustration, suggesting such actions could lead to unfair practices and warned against similar occurrences.
Dumelo also reaffirmed his optimism about his chances of winning the seat, praising the smooth conduct of the voting process and expressing confidence in the final outcome.
The incident underscores the rising stakes in one of Ghana’s most competitive parliamentary contests ahead of the December 7 elections.
