Election 2024: iCollate new digital platform launched to boost transparency and citizen participation
In a major move to boost transparency in Ghana’s electoral process, a new citizen-driven digital platform called iCollate has been launched to facilitate public participation in the collation of polling station results.
This app arrives at a crucial time for Ghana’s democracy, providing a transparent and inclusive tool for holding the electoral process accountable.
iCollate aims to empower Ghanaians, both at home and abroad, to actively engage in monitoring and reporting results to strengthen the integrity of elections.
Developed by the Ghanaian ICT firm Wigal Vision Ltd, iCollate enables users to upload polling station results, submit photographic and video evidence, and receive real-time nationwide updates.
The app can be accessed via the Google Play Store, Apple App Store, iCollate.app, and by dialling shortcode 8002024# for users without smartphones.
The Project Lead for iCollate emphasized, “Elections are not just about voting; they are about ensuring that every vote is counted. iCollate is a collective initiative by Ghanaians aimed at protecting our democracy and promoting transparency. It is designed to help citizens play an active role in guaranteeing free and fair elections.”
It is important to note that iCollate operates independently and does not aim to predict election outcomes or undermine the authority of the Electoral Commission (EC). It is not an official platform for election declarations but serves as a supplementary tool to support the collation of polling station results.
This initiative highlights the transformative power of technology in promoting democratic accountability. By allowing voters to independently record results, iCollate strengthens the credibility and inclusiveness of the electoral process, embodying the principles of democracy for the people, by the people, and in the interest of the people.
Appeal to the Media
The media, an essential pillar of democracy, is encouraged to use the iCollate App as a reliable source for real-time updates on election results from polling stations nationwide.
Journalists and broadcasters can access trustworthy data and visual documentation submitted by citizens, enriching their reporting on the electoral process.
Additionally, we urge the media to promote the App to maximize its outreach and effectiveness. Through such collaboration, we can enhance transparency and build public confidence in the electoral process.
