Ghana’s Political Leaders Commit to Peaceful December 7 Elections
Presidential candidates and political parties contesting Ghana’s December 7 elections have signed a peace pact, pledging to uphold peace throughout the electoral process.
The agreement emphasizes maintaining stability before, during, and after the polls.
At the signing of the 4th Presidential Election Peace Pact in Accra, Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa reassured the public of measures to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and credible election.
She encouraged confidence in the electoral process and urged parties to accept the results.
New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia called on political parties, media, and security agencies to prioritize peace, highlighting Ghana’s democratic track record.
National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, however, raised concerns about inadequate action against those inciting violence, warning that the peace pact must be enforced to remain meaningful.
The initiative underscores a collective commitment to preserving Ghana’s democratic stability during the 2024 elections.
