Dr. Daniel Augustus Lartey, the presidential candidate of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), underscored the urgent need for Ghana to prioritize domestication and self-reliance.
He pointed out that Ghana’s development has been stifled by its reliance on external sources, recalling the successful export of maize in the 1970s as an example of the country’s potential for self-sufficiency.
Dr. Lartey highlighted discipline as a crucial factor often compromised by economic challenges. He argued that the key to progress lies in fostering self-reliance, promoting local production, empowering farmers, and embracing sustainable practices. He believes these measures would enhance food security, curb inflation, and pave the way for a more prosperous future for Ghanaians.
To support his vision, Dr. Lartey committed to making self-reliance a primary focus and pledged to implement programs to strengthen agriculture and boost domestic production within his first three months in office.
He also vowed to equip farmers with essential tools, resources, and access to credit.
Dr. Lartey’s dedication to promoting domestication stems from his extensive background as both a businessman and a politician. He has founded various enterprises in Ghana, including a publishing company and a printing press, and served as a special adviser to the National Redemption Council government in 1972.
