The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed its readiness to conduct the upcoming special voting scheduled for Monday, December 2, 2024.
During a meeting with the National Election Security Taskforce in Accra, EC Chairperson Jean Mensah announced that the voter register has been finalized and distributed nationwide. She also revealed that the Commission is nearing completion of the distribution of ballot papers for both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
The Security Taskforce, led by Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akufo-Dampare, includes representatives from the Police, Immigration Service, Army, Prisons, and Fire Service.
The meeting aimed to assess the EC’s preparedness and reassure both the Commission and the public of the efforts being made to ensure a peaceful election. Jean Mensah noted that all ballot papers, except those for the Northern, Bono, and Bono East regions, have been delivered to police armories across the country.
She expressed confidence that, with the support of security services, the EC is well-positioned to conduct a free, fair, and peaceful election on December 7.
Dr. George Akufo-Dampare praised the EC for its diligent efforts and noted that the peaceful atmosphere in the lead-up to the election is a positive sign of the country’s commitment to a smooth electoral process.
The public has been reassured that the electoral process will be secure, allowing every citizen to vote without fear or intimidation.
