Ghana Toll Workers Union demand payment and reassignment after three-year wait

Henry Dogbe, the chairman of the Ghana Toll Workers Union, has expressed frustration and disappointment over the government’s unfulfilled promises to pay and reassign former toll workers.

“Three years ago, the government abolished toll collection, leaving about 800 workers jobless and without pay,” he said.

Mr. Dogbe emphasized in an interview on Spice FM, that the situation is particularly awful for disabled workers who have lost their livelihood, stating, “The situation is terrible for us the ‘ables’, and how much more the disabled.”

The union has taken various measures to address their concerns, including demonstrations, press conferences, and meetings, but the government is yet to fulfill its promises. Dogbe questioned the government’s decision to collapse the toll collection system, leaving equipment vulnerable to theft.

He also stated that the union has requested permission to demonstrate but has received no response. Mr. Dogbe emphasized that no political party has committed to repaying the workers’ three years of unpaid salaries.
