Madam Joyce K.Bagina, Director of the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly, addressed the upcoming second round of polio vaccination.
The campaign will take place from the 20th to the 25th of November 2024, across the country.
“The target is to vaccinate 39,685 children,” she emphasized. “The strategy will involve house-to-house visits and designated community centres to administer the vaccine to all children from birth to five years.”
Madam Bagina stressed that previous vaccinations do not exempt children from receiving additional doses. “Polio vaccine is safe, free, and administered orally. Repeated doses provide extra protection.”
She urged parents to report any sudden paralysis in children under five to the nearest health facility within 24 hours. Vaccinated children will have their left ring finger marked.
Madam Bagina highlighted challenges in private schools, where some heads claim parents refuse vaccination. She advised parents to attend regular weighing sessions post-campaign and requested that notification letters be sent to PTAs.
