Eight dead, 17 injured in stabbing outside Chinese school
Eight people have been killed and 17 injured in a stabbing incident outside a school in eastern China, authorities have confirmed.
The attack occurred at Wuxi Yixing Arts and Crafts Vocational and Technical College in the city of Wuxi around 6:30 pm local time (10:30 GMT), and a 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene, according to a statement from local police.
The suspect, identified as a 2024 graduate of the college, reportedly carried out the attack due to dissatisfaction over failing to obtain his diploma after poor exam results and frustration with low internship pay.
Police stated he confessed to the crime “without hesitation.”
Efforts are underway to “manage the aftermath,” and an investigation has been launched, police said.
This incident comes days after another tragedy in southern China, where at least 35 people were killed when a driver intentionally drove a car into crowds at a stadium in Zhuhai.
Authorities linked that attack to the driver’s grievances over a divorce settlement.
Discussions on social media have highlighted a troubling trend of “taking revenge on society,” where individuals vent personal grievances through attacks on strangers.
These incidents have sparked concern about increasing public violence in China.
