Mahama reaffirms commitment to Free SHS policy with focus on sustainable funding

Mahama

John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s presidential candidate, has pledged his unwavering support for Ghana’s Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, promising to sustain and enhance it if he is elected.

Speaking to Christian leaders in Kumasi on November 11, Mahama dismissed claims that his administration would abolish the program, labeling such accusations as politically motivated misinformation.

Mahama reiterated that Free SHS will remain a cornerstone of his educational agenda, emphasizing that the program has significantly increased access to secondary education.

However, he highlighted the need for secure and consistent funding to improve its quality and ensure its long-term sustainability.

He stressed that while access has expanded, the focus now should be on securing resources to enhance educational outcomes, promising that under his leadership, the program would be strengthened to better serve future generations.

The NDC leader’s stance aligns with his broader vision of ensuring quality education for all, while addressing existing challenges in the Free SHS initiative.

This assurance follows the commitment from both the NDC and the NPP to support the Free SHS program, though each party proposes different strategies to optimize its implementation and effectiveness.
