Interior Ministry confirms Friday, November 8, will not be a public holiday

The Ministry for the Interior has clarified that Friday, November 8, 2024, will not be a public holiday, despite the date set for the National Farmers’ Day celebration.

In a statement signed by the Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, it was emphasized that the official statutory holiday for Farmers’ Day will remain on Friday, December 6, 2024. This date will be observed as a public holiday nationwide.

“Friday, December 6, 2024, which marks Farmers’ Day, remains a Statutory Public Holiday and will be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement noted.

Typically, Farmers’ Day is celebrated on the first Friday of December as a statutory public holiday.

However, in election years, when the first Friday in December falls near the date of the presidential and parliamentary elections (held on December 7), Farmers’ Day is celebrated earlier in November, but the official public holiday is still observed on the first Friday of December.

As such, this year, while the celebration of Farmers’ Day will take place on Friday, November 8, the public holiday will still be observed on the statutory date, Friday, December 6, 2024.
