UK to implement E-Visas in 2025
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced a new UK visa policy that will mandate E-Visas for all travelers planning extended stays in the United Kingdom.
Beginning January 1, 2025, the UK will transition entirely to electronic visas, replacing physical visa documentation, Biometric Residence Permits (BRP), and Biometric Residence Cards (BRC), which will no longer be valid after December 31, 2024.
According to the British High Commission, this shift aims to simplify the visa process and enhance security measures for foreign nationals.
Individuals with BRPs currently residing in the UK for work, study, or other long-term purposes are advised to apply for E-Visas, as all BRP cards will expire on December 31, regardless of their printed expiration dates.
The Ministry encourages travelers planning to leave the UK during the holiday season to secure their E-Visas ahead of time to avoid any re-entry issues.
Further information is available on the British High Commission’s website, or travelers can contact UK immigration authorities for E-Visa application guidance.
This announcement was made in an advisory signed by Victor N. A. Adamah, Acting Director for the Ministry’s Information and Public Affairs Bureau, on November 4, 2024.
