Speaker Bagbin summons Parliament
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has called Members of Parliament to reconvene on November 7, referencing Article 112 (3) of the Constitution and Standing Orders 5 and 53.
This decision follows a Supreme Court order to stay his previous ruling on four vacant parliamentary seats, with the court dismissing the Speaker’s stay application on October 30.
The session is set to begin at 10 a.m. at the Accra International Conference Centre. While the agenda has not been disclosed, it is anticipated that urgent national issues will be addressed, and members are expected to arrive on time.
In a notice sent on October 31, arrangements for the sitting were outlined.
Speaker Bagbin also highlighted a communication from the Supreme Court instructing him to stay his earlier ruling that had declared four parliamentary seats vacant.
This recall comes after Speaker Bagbin adjourned parliamentary proceedings indefinitely on October 22 due to tensions between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding majority status.
