Election 2024: NMC set to launch a media monitoring app to tackle misinformation

The Executive Secretary of the National Media Commission (NMC), Mr. George Sarpong, has announced plans to launch a media watch app designed to tackle misinformation and disinformation in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

This initiative aims to empower both journalists and citizens to report suspicious activities at polling stations in real-time, facilitating prompt responses.

During a public forum organized by the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG), themed “Moderating the Airwaves for Peaceful and Credible Elections 2024,” Mr. Sarpong highlighted the app’s potential to promote peaceful elections and enhance the safety of journalists.

He emphasized that the Media Watch App will be transformative, providing accurate information from polling stations nationwide before, during, and after the elections.

“This app will be a game-changer by delivering precise updates on election activities across the country.

It will also allow individuals at polling stations to capture and submit footage during result declarations, enabling the system to verify its authenticity.

We believe that in the event of disputes, this app will serve as reliable evidence for anyone seeking clarity on incidents that occur,” Mr. Sarpong affirmed.
