Old video resurfaces: “If I die today, my running mate will take over from me” -Akua Donkor
Following the death of Akua Donkor, founder and presidential candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), old interview videos revealing her health struggles and campaign resilience have resurfaced online.
In one interview with Zionfelix TV, she candidly addressed her decade-long health battle but affirmed her determination to run for the presidency. Akua Donkor also expressed confidence that her running mate would continue her mission in the event of her passing.
“I have been experiencing health challenges for the past 10 years but I am still alive. Even if I die today, my running mate will take over from me,” she said in the interview.
Akua Donkor, who began her political journey as an Assemblywoman in the Ashanti Region, became widely recognized for her candid remarks and tenacious approach to Ghanaian politics. Her campaign promises, including free vehicles for journalists and duty-free port services, highlighted her unconventional style.
With her recent passing, however, GFP’s 2024 election participation remains uncertain. Roman Fada, Akua Donkor’s running mate, stated in an interview with Hitz FM’s Andy Dosty that no final decision has been made regarding the party’s future in the election.
Her passing marks the end of a unique political journey, leaving her party at a pivotal crossroads as the 2024 election approaches.
