W/R: Seven arraigned before court for illegal mining

Seven persons have been arraigned before the Special Court in Sekondi for engaging in illegal mining activities in the Western Region.

The seven accused persons are Ibrahim Dauda, Michael Tettey Komlorm, Douglas Ayambila, Elvis Aborta, Nsoh Oto alias Agorogo, Kwadwo George alias Sergio, and Emmanuel Van alias Atta.

They have been arraigned before court by the Western Central Regional Police Command after their arrest during an operation.

They have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and undertaking mining activities without license, and have since been remanded into police custody. They will reappear before the court on April 17, 2025.

In a related development, two more Chinese nationals, Huan Ciongjian (38) and Ling Yong (56) have also been arrested for illegal mining along the Bonsa river banks.

The Police says all foreign nationals arrested have been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service.
