NCCE highlights vote buying, violence, and need for electoral reforms
The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has highlighted several critical issues that need to be addressed before the upcoming elections, including vote buying, election-related violence, lack of confidence in the electoral system, and the necessity for electoral reforms.
These concerns were revealed in a survey examining the 2024 issues that matter to Ghanaian voters, which sought to capture citizens’ perspectives on the electoral process and their expectations of elected representatives.
Dr. Henrietta Asante Sarpong, Director of Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation at the NCCE, noted that the study focused on Ghanaians’ views and expectations regarding the widespread issue of vote buying.
She emphasized that the research also tackled concerns about election-related violence, aiming to foster peace and tolerance throughout the electoral process.
Additionally, the study evaluated the electorate’s confidence in the electoral system and identified the need for reforms to enhance Ghana’s democratic institutions and processes.
Dr. Asante Sarpong pointed out that respondents clearly articulated their expectations from the Electoral Commission during the survey.
