National Muslim Conference calls for peace and unity among Ghanaians
The National Muslim Conference of Ghana (NMCG) has urged Ghanaians, particularly Muslims, to prioritize peace and unity during the election season.
At the 4th annual conference held in Accra, Alhaji Inusah Mohammed, General Secretary of NMCG, encouraged Muslims to contribute to national development actively. He emphasized the need for Muslim youth to engage with policymakers to address development disparities within the community.
Founded in 2021, the NMCG serves as the representative voice for all Muslims in Ghana, providing a platform for dialogue and participation in national issues.
In his address, Alhaji Inusah Mohammed called on Muslims, especially the youth, to reject being used as instruments of chaos and violence in the upcoming elections.
“The Muslim community has evolved, and it’s time for political leaders and the government to adjust their approaches toward us. We are no longer a source of cheap militia for political parties in Ghana; we want to change how things operate,” he stated.
Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin echoed the call for peace, expressing his support for initiatives like the NMCG. “I am committed to ensuring that the voices of all Ghanaians are acknowledged and respected.
The NMCG can significantly influence policies that foster peace and harmony within the Muslim community and the country at large,” he affirmed.
In a message read on behalf of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, there was a call for parliamentarians to prioritize peace in their discussions. “We appeal to our honorable members of parliament to maintain calm for the sake of Ghana and its citizens, facilitating the resolution of current challenges,” he urged.
The conference, themed “Towards Bridging The Gaps in National Healthcare Delivery in Ghana: The Role of the National Muslim Conference of Ghana,” also saw the National Chief Imam urging the government to view Muslims as partners in advancing healthcare in the country.
The event was attended by Vice President Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, along with various Muslim leaders and representatives from different stakeholders.
