Ghana Police pursue suspect in Agona West campaign shooting incident

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed an ongoing manhunt for the individual responsible for a shooting that injured four people during political activities in the Agona West Constituency on Sunday, October 27, 2024.

Two of the injured victims received treatment and were later discharged, while the remaining two are still in the hospital receiving care.

According to reports, the incident occurred as supporters of Chris Arthur, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, returned from a campaign launch in Otinkorang, Agona West.

As they encountered supporters of incumbent MP Cynthia Morrison at Agona Nyankrom, gunfire ensued, injuring several people, including Haruna Rashid, Arthur’s campaign manager, who was struck in the ribs and taken to Agona Swedru Government Hospital.

Following the incident, Cynthia Morrison expressed concern and clarified her unawareness of the gunfire at the time.

On Monday, October 28, 2024, police released a statement confirming an enhanced security presence in the area and their determination to swiftly apprehend the shooter, affirming their commitment to safety and order during this politically sensitive time.
