Cholera outbreak in Ada claims lives

Cholera

A cholera outbreak in the Ada East and Ada West districts of the Greater Accra Region has resulted in two deaths, with 43 confirmed cases reported to date, according to the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

Health officials are taking immediate measures to contain the spread and prevent further fatalities.

Dr. Frank Bekoe, the Director of Public Health at GHS, provided an update on the situation, explaining that health teams are focused on early detection and contact tracing to manage the outbreak effectively.

With 37 cases in Ada East and six in Ada West, the authorities are monitoring at-risk areas to control the spread of the disease.

Cholera, caused by Vibrio cholerae bacteria, spreads through consuming contaminated food or water, especially in regions with poor sanitation.

The disease can cause severe dehydration, vomiting, and diarrhea, leading to rapid fatality if untreated.

Health officials urge communities to prioritize clean water access and proper sanitation practices to curb the disease’s transmission.
