Professor urges Parliament to tackle vacant seat controversy with common sense approach

In a recent call to action, Professor Kwabena Sarfo Sarfo-Kantankah, a prominent Parliamentary discourse analyst, urged members of parliament to address the ongoing vacant seat controversy with a practical and “common sense” approach.

This appeal comes amid increasing discussions and debates surrounding the unresolved issue of vacant parliamentary seats.

“I urge members of parliament to adopt a common-sense perspective. Even in law, a common-sense approach is vital, especially when considering public interest policies,” he stated during a phone interview on GTV’s Breakfast Show on Thursday, October 23, 2024.

He also noted that as Ghana continues to develop its democratic principles, citizens will face various challenges. These challenges can serve as opportunities for the country to enhance its legal framework, ultimately contributing to the strengthening of its laws.

Prof. Kwabena stressed the need for timely conflict resolution to ensure the smooth operation of parliament.

He highlighted that decisions made by the Supreme Court are final and definitive, serving as the ultimate resolution to legal disputes within Ghana’s judicial system.
