‘My son did not carry a gun, it was just an accident’—Bishop Salifu Amoako defends son in East Legon fatality
Bishop Salifu Amoako, father of the 16-year-old boy involved in the tragic accident that claimed the lives of two young girls in East Legon on October 12, 2024, has urged Ghanaians to refrain from speculating about the incident.
Speaking to his congregation at Alive Chapel International on Sunday, October 20, the well-known religious leader expressed frustration over ongoing public discussions surrounding the accident, emphasizing that it was a tragic mishap rather than a deliberate act.
Bishop Salifu Amoako defended his son, clarifying that the boy did not commit an intentional crime. “It was an accident,” he said, adding “My son did not carry a gun to kill anybody. He involved himself in a terrible accident, and I am not the one who did it, nor his mother. It is my name, that is why people are talking.”
The bishop attributed the heightened public interest to his prominent status, suggesting that if it had been a less high-profile incident, like a motorcycle accident, it would not have attracted the same level of attention. He urged the public to stop discussing the matter and to trust in divine intervention.
The accident, which involved the boy driving a Jaguar, resulted in a fire that tragically claimed the lives of the two girls. Since then, the event has sparked widespread debate, with questions being raised about the circumstances leading to the crash.
Despite the tragedy, Bishop Amoako appealed for patience, asking the public to allow the legal process to take its course. He expressed confidence that the truth would eventually emerge.
