Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reminded the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that parliamentary majorities are earned through victories at the polling stations, not “manufactured” within Parliament.
His comments follow Thursday’s events in Parliament, where the Speaker declared four seats vacant, temporarily giving the NDC a majority.
However, within 24 hours, the Supreme Court stayed the execution of the ruling, restoring the previous balance of power until the case is fully resolved.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Nkawkaw on Saturday, Dr. Bawumia took a jab at the NDC, pointing out that their “majority” lasted only 24 hours. He emphasized that real parliamentary dominance is secured at the ballot box.
“A few days ago, they (NDC) did something in Parliament and claimed to be the majority side,” Dr. Bawumia said at a large campaign rally in Nkawkaw on Saturday.
“But their majority lasted just 24 hours. It was the shortest-living majority in history,” he added.
Dr. Bawumia urged NPP members to remain united, confident that the party will secure a clear majority by the December elections if they maintain their current momentum.
“They need to understand that if they want a majority, they should come to the polling station, come to the constituency, win an election, and then go to Parliament. You don’t sit in Parliament and manufacture a majority for yourself,” he said.
