MTN Ghana has held its annual media and stakeholder forum for 2024 in the Western Region, to establish ties with key stakeholders and highlight the company’s offerings, achievements, successes and concerns.
The program aims to bring journalists, editors and other relevant stakeholders to share ideas and foster collaboration between the company and the media.
Leading the discussions at the forum in Takoradi, the Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN, Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe provided updates on the company’s plan for environmental, social and governance.
She said that, as an institution, it is working to reduce carbon emissions by 2040.
“So MTN’s sustainability, framework is based on 4 pillars. We are looking we’re looking at what we say for doing for the planet, that’s climate action, looking at what we are and how we are contributing to the reduction of, carbon, dioxide.
And then we also have, doing for societies what that relates to the social side. And then we have the governance side and also what we are contributing to, the socioeconomic development, of the country. So when it comes to, the reduction of our carbon footprint, we are, looking at our data centres.
We are converting our energy sources, to solar. And in cases where we are not able immediately to convert to solar, we are replacing it with more energy-efficient equipment. So that’s what we are doing, and we are doing that at all our data centres. In our offices as well, we are converting to energy efficient, you know, appliances, equipment, and also be able to reduce our carbon footprint. Our ambition, as MTN is to, achieve net zero, by 2040, and so that’s what we are all working towards,” Madam Wiafe mentioned.
Madam Afriyie Wiafe recalled the company’s vision of expanding its customer base through enhanced customer satisfaction, amongst others.
The intention, she mentioned is to give customers the best in terms of services.
According to her,” So in terms of, customer experience, this year, we’ve engaged in a lot of network upgrades, and I’m sure you have heard about it. We went through a period where we are swapping, some of our equipment, upgrading to more energy efficient, equipment and more modern equipment. So from the network side, we are involved in doing that.
From a customer service side as well, we are improving the way that we serve customers, moving more into self-service, and improving our service delivery our time delivery times, and also, it’s a holistic view that we’ve taken to customer experience and, you know, quality of service and what we do. And so we’re hoping that will, that is translate to some improvements for the customer.
