Ghana Armed Forces warns public against wearing military uniforms illegally

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has issued a strong warning against the unauthorized use of military-pattern uniforms and accessories by individuals during demonstrations and other activities.

In a statement released on Monday, October 14, GAF expressed concern over the increasing number of people wearing unapproved military uniforms, particularly during protests and while providing security for public figures.

The statement highlighted that this trend persists despite previous warnings and has also been observed around illegal mining areas.

“The attention of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has been drawn to the unauthorized and unlawful use of military-pattern uniforms and accoutrements by protesters during demonstrations, as well as by individuals providing security for some public figures.

“GAF has also noted with dismay similar illegal acts among persons operating in illegal mining areas (Galamsey sites) and some political activists. Despite ongoing education and warnings, this concerning trend appears to be increasing.”

GAF warned that the unauthorized use of military attire poses serious security risks and damages the image of the Armed Forces. The statement emphasized that decisive actions, including arrests, will be taken against violators, and urged the public to report any suspicious activities involving unauthorized military uniforms.

“In light of the security implications of these illegal acts, GAF will henceforth take decisive actions, including, the arrest of persons who violate these regulations to face the full rigour of the law. We also urge the public to report any suspicious activities involving unauthorised military attire.

“GAF reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to protecting citizens and maintaining the territorial integrity of Ghana. As the country approaches the 2024 general elections, the cooperation of all citizens is essential in upholding peace and security.”

As the nation heads toward the 2024 general elections, GAF reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining peace and security, calling for the cooperation of all citizens.
