John Mahama: “Ghana will rise again” as he vows to fix the economy
John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reaffirmed his commitment to revitalizing Ghana’s struggling economy, pledging bold reforms and a comprehensive recovery plan if elected in the upcoming December 7 general elections.
Speaking to energized supporters during his three-day campaign tour of the Upper West Region, including stops in Nadowli and Wichaw, Mahama delivered a message of hope, particularly targeting the nation’s disillusioned youth.
He blamed the current government, led by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for what he called “gross economic mismanagement” over the last eight years, citing rising inflation, unsustainable debt, and a depreciating currency.
John Mahama highlighted the worsening financial situation faced by Ghanaians, especially the youth, who he said are grappling with high unemployment and stagnant wages. “I understand why many young people are losing hope. After eight years of poor governance, it’s no surprise. But I am here to assure you that the NDC will fix the economy and give you a brighter future,” he said, calling on the youth not to give up on the country.
The former president assured the crowd that under his leadership, Ghana would experience a turnaround, bringing renewed opportunities for all citizens, particularly the younger generation.
“NDC is going to come and fix the economy. So I know a lot of young people are losing hope. A lot of young people say, look, we don’t see any future in this country. And I can understand you. After what has happened these last 8 years, you are justified to lose hope in your country.
“But I stand here as the former president of Ghana and the incoming president of Ghana to appeal to all the young people of this country. You are my children because many of you are the same ages as my sons, and I appeal to you not to lose hope in this country. This country will rise up again.”
