Deputy Director General of TVET Service advocates for Girls’ Empowerment through TVET

On the 2024 International Day of the Girl, the Ghana TVET Service, in collaboration with Ghana Education Service and other Partners, held a commemorative program at Ada Technical Institute to celebrate all Ghanaian girls under the THEME: Girls vision for the future, better prospects of TVET

In a powerful address delivered on behalf of the Director General for TVET Service, Madam Lily Djima (Deputy Director General, Management Service) emphasized the need to break down barriers preventing young women from entering male-dominated fields like wood construction and engineering.

She advocated that girls deserve equal opportunities to excel in any profession, underscoring TVET’s pivotal role in fostering economic freedom and progress.

Further, Madam Djima admitted the hurdles girls face, spanning from gender bias to limited resources, but noted that partnerships with organizations such as UNICEF, CAMFED, and the British Council could help address these challenges. She ended her speech by showing solidarity to girl empowerment and reiterated that, with the requisite skills, girls can contribute immensely to society.

Madam Gifty Asiedua, Director of Girl Child Education at the Ghana Education Service, emphasized the program’s significance in promoting gender equality, while also acknowledging the valuable support from the partners, Member of Parliament for the area, the Principal of Ada Technical Institute, and event organizers.

Her speech was followed by optional addresses from the Member of Parliament for Ada Constituency and representatives from notable organizations such as the British Council, UNICEF, and FAWE. A key highlight of the event was the panel discussion, which brought together female engineers and a student from Ada Technical Institute pursuing Electrical Engineering Technology, showcasing the potential and achievements of women in STEM fields
