Son of Osama bin Laden deported from France for glorifying terrorism on social media
A son of Al Qaeda’s late founder, Osama bin Laden, has been deported from France, where he had lived for years painting landscapes in a Normandy village.
Omar Binladin has also been banned from returning after allegedly posting comments on social media that were considered to glorify terrorism.
French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau announced that he had signed an order prohibiting Omar Binladin from entering France, noting that Binladin had been previously deported.
However, Retailleau did not provide specifics about the timing of the deportation or Binladin’s current location.
Retailleau stated, “Mr. Binladin, who has lived in the Orne region for several years as the spouse of a British national, posted comments on his social networks in 2023 that glorified terrorism,” adding that the administrative ban prevents him from returning to France for any reason.
Local newspaper Le Publicateur Libre reported that French authorities became aware of Binladin following a social media post commemorating his father’s birthday; Osama bin Laden was killed by U.S. forces in 2011.
The paper also mentioned that police had been searching for Omar Binladin in the village of Domfort, Normandy, in July 2023. Binladin was not immediately available for comment.
