Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emphasized the importance of digitalisation in Ghana’s economic strategy, spearheaded by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration.
Speaking at the launch of the CitizenApp on Monday, October 7, 2024, Dr. Bawumia highlighted how digital innovation is reshaping economies worldwide, positioning it as a crucial element of Ghana’s development.
The newly launched CitizenApp is designed to provide a streamlined platform where citizens can access government services, report issues, and receive real-time updates on public matters. Dr. Bawumia noted that the app aims to enhance efficiency, convenience, and transparency in interactions between citizens and government agencies.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to fully embracing the Fourth Industrial Revolution, warning that Ghana must not miss this transformative opportunity as it did with previous industrial revolutions.
Dr. Bawumia further stated that digital innovation has the potential to create jobs, improve productivity, and foster wealth creation, making it essential for the country’s economic future.
“Under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, we have made digitisation a central pillar of our economic strategy. Recognising that the fourth industrial revolution is already happening and it is reshaping global landscapes.
“As a country, that has missed the previous three revolutions that many nations took advantage of to become developed countries. We must not miss the fourth industrial revolution. We must seize the opportunities that this fourth revolution presents.
“There is mounting empirical evidence that highlights the transformative potential of digital innovation to create jobs, boost productivity, increase income levels and foster wealth creation,” he stated.
