Proponents of the Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, widely known as the anti-gay bill, are holding a protest today, Tuesday, October 8, to express their frustration with the prolonged delay in finalizing the bill.

Despite its passage in Parliament on February 28, the bill still awaits the president’s assent.

The delays have been exacerbated by a Supreme Court ruling on July 17, which postponed judgments on anti-gay cases until all related legal matters are resolved.

Samuel Nartey George, the bill’s lead advocate and Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, emphasized the Chief Justice’s ability to expedite the process, highlighting the importance of timely justice.

He criticized the lengthy legal procedures, arguing that delayed justice undermines the integrity of the judicial system, and called on the Chief Justice to ensure swift action on the matter.

Advocates hope the protest will push for immediate approval of the bill and resolve the ongoing legal delays.
