Six suspects arrested for allegedly lynching a prisons officer

The Ghana Prisons Service has confirmed the tragic lynching of Lance Corporal Gideon Adu Boakye, an officer stationed at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, which occurred on September 29, 2024, in Kasoa Iron City.

According to a statement issued on Sunday, the officer had been granted permission to visit relatives in Kasoa when he was allegedly attacked and killed by a group of unidentified assailants.

The Prisons Administration, in collaboration with the police, is investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder.

So far six individuals, four females and two males have been arrested and arraigned in court. They have been remanded for further investigation.

The Prisons Service emphasized its commitment to ensuring that the perpetrators face justice and cautioned the public against engaging in mob justice, urging them to allow the police to handle such cases to prevent the harm or death of innocent people.

The Service extended its condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officer, while assuring all officers to remain calm as the investigation progresses.
