Cocoa Carriers Association declares indefinite strike over service conditions
The leadership of the Cocoa Carriers Association has directed its members at the Tema, Takoradi, and Kumasi depots of the Cocoa Marketing Company Limited to embark on an indefinite sit-down strike from Monday, October 7, 2024, citing unresolved issues related to their conditions of service.
In 2022, the Association engaged in a similar strike to demand better wages and improved working conditions, which resulted in thousands of bags of cocoa beans being left unattended at various warehouses.
National Chairman Raymond Atanga Abobiga, speaking with Citi News, urged all members to fully participate in the strike, emphasizing that they will report to work but refuse to resume duties until their demands are met. He clarified, “We are not against an individual; we are fighting for a just cause.”
