Hohoe: Young man canned for tearing down John-Peter Amewu’s posters in viral video

A viral video circulating on social media has captured a young man in Hohoe, Volta Region, being subjected to ten lashes for tearing down campaign posters of John-Peter Amewu, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Hohoe Constituency.

Jonas-Kwofi Worlanyo, Vice Chairman of Gbi-Bla House of Justice, a voluntary group supporting Amewu, informed the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that incidents of poster vandalism have surged in recent weeks.

In Ghana, it is an electoral offence to destroy or tamper with the campaign materials of any political candidate or party.

Such acts are unlawful and punishable under the electoral code, with penalties ranging from fines to imprisonment, or both.
