Ghana Reports MPox Case in Western North Region
Ghana has confirmed a case of MPox in the Western North Region, with an additional 230 suspected cases pending confirmation from 88 districts across all 16 regions.
The National Public Health and Reference Laboratory (NPHRL) confirmed the case following laboratory tests on a suspected MPox patient. The individual is a 15-year-old male who visited a district government hospital on September 15, 2024, presenting with a three-day history of fever, body aches, sore throat, and a rash that began on his palms and faces before spreading to his trunk and extremities.
Notably, there is no history of travel in the past 21 days or sexual exposure to anyone who might be infectious.
In response, the Western North Regional Health Directorate and the Bia West District have declared a public health emergency. Authorities are currently monitoring 15 healthcare facilities and following up with 10 community contacts.
