Former Ghana School of Law Director urges Organised Labour to ignore President’s appeal on strike

Organised Labour

Kwaku Ansah-Asare, former director of the Ghana School of Law, has called on Organised Labour to dismiss President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s request to cancel their planned nationwide strike against illegal mining (galamsey).

The president, during a closed-door meeting with Organised Labour leaders on October 3, asked them to reconsider the strike set for October 10, reassuring his commitment to tackling the environmental damage caused by galamsey.

Ansah-Asare, however, criticized the president for failing to fulfill his earlier promise to fight galamsey, highlighting the lack of sincerity.

He noted that President Akufo-Addo had previously stated he would put his presidency on the line for the galamsey fight and suggested that Organised Labour move forward with their planned strike, as promises made during the final weeks of his term are unlikely to be fulfilled.
