The Coalition of Concerned Citizens Against Galamsey will submit a petition today, October 4, to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources as part of its ongoing demonstration against illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey.

This action forms part of a three-day protest, which commenced on Thursday, October 3, under the banners “#FreeTheCitizens” and “#SayNoToGalamsey.”

The demonstration seeks to raise public awareness of the devastating effects of illegal mining and demand stronger measures to combat it.

Brownson Adatsi, the group’s convener, called on the general public to participate in the protest to safeguard Ghana’s water bodies and forest reserves from further degradation.

On Saturday, October 5, the protest will culminate at Independence Square with a night vigil to underscore the severity of the issue.

Adatsi stressed that the destructive impact of galamsey is a threat to the country’s resources, land, and future, affecting everyone regardless of their background.
