The Coalition of Concerned Citizens Against Galamsey has initiated a three-day protest, beginning on October 3 and continuing through October 5, to demand the release of 53 anti-galamsey protesters, mainly from the Democracy Hub group, who were detained during demonstrations held between September 21 and 23.

The march, held under the banners “#FreeTheCitizens” and “#SayNoToGalamsey,” will begin at Okponglo and proceed through the car park of the Accra Sports Stadium.

The protest seeks to raise awareness about the harmful impacts of illegal mining (galamsey) and urge more decisive action against it.

One of the activists’ lawyers, Noble Amedowu, informed Citi News that a formal petition would be presented to key institutions on the first day of the march, including Parliament, the Attorney General, and the Lands Commission.

The three-day event will include further demonstrations, with a night vigil on the final day to highlight the severe environmental damage caused by galamsey, particularly on rivers like the Pra, Ankobra, and Birim.
